When we drive, it is necessary that we map out where we are going. If we have no destination we would most certainly get lost. And you would never go to a train station and say to the ticket clerk..."Surprise me".

When we set goals for ourselves we need to know where we want to get to. A goal must be measureable, believable and realistic.

An effective method of goal setting is what in NLP we refer to as "Chunking" meaning you break the goal down into a series of smaller goals.

If you want to lose 50 lbs, start with a goal of 5 lbs.  If you want to stop smoking, reduce the amount in half first.

By chunking down your goals it makes it far easier to see the results and gets you one step closer to success!

When used daily, self hypnosis can help you to achieve remarkable things. It's relaxing, helps you to focus and reach your goals much easier.

While self hypnosis is similar to meditation there is a difference.

Meditation is the practice of clearing ones mind of all thought. Self hypnosis is the practice of using the power of your mind to refocus your awareness on a goal or change that you would like to make.

Here is a simple self hypnosis technique that you can use to help you make the changes you desire.

Step 1-Find a place where you won't be disturbed for 10 minutes.

Step 2-Focus your attention on the space in front of you and count downwards from 10-1. Allow your eyelids to get heavier and heavier with every number.

Step 3-When you reach the count of 1 close your eyes and begin to breath deeply.

Step 5-Imagine in front of you a movie screen with an image of yourself living exactly as you want. Notice what you look like, feel like and sound like. Notice the colour, vibration and energy of the image.

Step 6-Imagine stepping into the image. Imagine that like a computer installing a new program, your mind, body and energy absorb this new image of you.

Step 7-Enjoy being in this image for a few minutes allowing yourself to feel it fully

Step 8- Count yourself out of hypnosis by counting from 1-10

Step 9-When you reach the count of 10 open your eyes and tell yourself you are full of energy and life

Step 10-Enjoy your day knowing that you have programmed your mind for your highest good!

Sometimes people leave working out until a few weeks before summer. When the hot weather hits, so does a realization that perhaps a few pounds that were put on during the winter months can no longer be concealed under warm clothing!

These 5 and easy tips can help you to let go of those few pounds before the start of summer on June 22.

1. Increase your physical activity. If you usually take a car or transit to work, consider riding your bike instead or walk. Doing this everyday is a great way to add physical activity to your daily routine.

2. Eat your vegetables and fruits! Consuming raw fruits and vegetables in their raw state is excellent for letting go of weight. Raw fruits and vegetables also fill you up and provide your body with nutrients.

3. Set a goal. If you want to let go of 10 pounds by June 30 set it as a goal. Ask yourself what you need to do to accomplish the goal. People who set goals for themselves are more likely to accomplish what they set out to do.

4. Limit the amount of alcohol that you consume. Alcohol is a major culprit in weight. It slows down the bodies ability to burn fat and is very high in calories. Mixed drinks, Martinis and bottled coolers are all very high in sugar as well. If you must have a drink, have a vodka and soda with a twist of lime which is the best, lowest calorie choice. Limit your drink intake to no more than 2 drinks.

5. Drink only water! Many people consume what is known as "unconscious calories" that coffee with sugar in the morning, the juice or pop with lunch etc. By drinking only water each day you will reduce the amount of calories you are consuming which can help when slimming down and letting go of weight.
